“Portraits of Purpose” is our video series on social entrepreneurs who make a genuine impact through their work. Through their stories, we help raise awareness of social enterprises and the good work they do in addressing social needs.

Sampurn(e)arth is a Mumbai-based start-up focusing on urban waste management. As part of their operations, women waste pickers are transformed into becoming waste managers. This initiative is funded by DBS-TISS Social Entrepreneurship Programme that provides seed funding and business mentorship to social enterprises. Till date, the programme has supported 22 social entrepreneurs operating across various states.

Engineers Jayanth, Debarth and Ritvik enrolled at the DBS-TISS Social Entrepreneurship programme and developed a decentralized zero –waste approach where waste management and recycling is tackled at source.  Over three years, they refined their business and operations model, grown their capacity while also elevating the dignity and working conditions of waste collectors in Mumbai, India. In the next 3 years, they will increase their waste handling capacity to 500 metric tonnes per day and employ 1500 waste collectors. Their contribution rings in relevance and significance of social problems due to massive urbanization in developing countries like India. DBS is proud to support them on this clean journey.
